But who really cares? I might be biased just because I think MySpace is a badly designed piece of crap (I will however say “big up” to the founders, because they’ve earned their bread money) and I don’t think that Google would’ve made much difference to that.
The only way Google could’ve “rescued” MySpace, was to overhaul and redo the whole thing, but the geeks at Google decided to rather build their MySpace, which should always be better…Apparently Rupert Murdoch, owner of News Corp who purchased MySpace for approx $600 million, said that Google could’ve bought MySpace before them for half the price News Corp paid. This is obviously all just hearsay and internet rumours.
Apparently News Corp has quite an extensive plan in place - we would expect so much - to make MySpace profitable and being giant media moguls, they should be successfull. But it’s MySpace - although it’s an amazing concept with a proven success record - the verdict is still out on the profitability of the whole thing.
So, in my humble opinion, Google did the right thing NOT to buy MySpace - that’s if they were actually really interested from the start. My opinion is also that the whole MySpace concept is only a phase and that Google should not try to create a better version - they should rather spend more time on their ongoing battle with Microsoft, because that’s just so much more fun!
