Nike launches controversial Rooney ad

Nike launched this controversial ad of Manchester United and England Football Hero, Wayne Rooney, this week. It is primarily an outdoor campaign with it being featured on various billboards in the UK, although a few newspapers also carried the ad.

Apparently a few MP’s and religious leaders are outraged by Nike’s audicity blah-blah-blah…We like it!

Dirty Rock ‘n Roll

The Dirty SkirtsIntroducing South African indie rockers, The Dirty Skirts, with their infectious, foot-tapping brand of rock music. Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, these 4 guys have taken the local music industry by storm.

They started out with only 3 members and a laptop on drums. But they have since evolved and now sport a full-time drummer as part of the band.

Their music is good and should propell them to international success. The music however isn’t much different to the recipe followed by recent mainstream successes The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand. The Skirts have however added a little bit of electronica, which makes them a little different.

What however seperates these guys from the next, is their awesome, awesome, awesome (get the point?) branding. Their logo (left) is a demon bunny and their whole image features these bunnies. Their website is a great Flash experience and you should visit.

These guys will go on to great things in the future. Prepare for the demon bunnies…

Carla la Reserveé

Having recently topped the voting in FHM South Africa’s 100 Sexiest Woman, I decided to find more images and info on supermodel, Carla la Reserveé. Thing is, that although she’s absolutely gorgeous, I couldn’t find a lot… Here are some good images though…

And there’s also this video of her casting session for her modelling agency. It’s wack what a little make-up does and a big thumbs up to the modelling agency for grabbing her based just on what they saw at the casting session.

SMS Sugarman - World’s 1st Mobile Movie

smssugarman1.jpg South African director, Aryan Kaganoff (www.kaganoff.com), likes challenges. His latest quest is to completely shoot the world’s first feature-length film using a mobile phone, after he’s already produced another film, Wasted!, using only Mini-DV camera’s.

The movie will be called SMS Sugarman and scheduled for release later this year.

Kaganoff says:

“We are re-writing the book on cinema here, …things will never be the same again. From now onwards, all you’ll need [to make a film] is a good idea, a cellphone, a laptop and you’re off. It opens up a whole world of possibilities for African filmmakers.”

And according to another interview with Aryan Kaganoff in One Small Seed (www.onesmallseed.co.za), the quality of the film will be right up there. No special Lord of the Rings or ET type visual effects, but it will be good. We’re quite interested in seeing this.

Visit the film’s official website (www.smssugarman.co.za) for more information. Or download the full promotional teaser here.
