The Technicolor Book Store

Kids Republic BookstoreJust found out about this awesome book store called Kids Republic in Beijing. The design and creative ideas of this place is simply brilliant and I would’ve loved buying my books there when I was a kid…

It seems that the idea behind the design was to use as much colours and weird shapes as possible to lure the kiddies into a fantasy world. That whole concept really works for me and I believe, if the marketing is done correctly, that the shop will create the idea that it’s cool to read again - especially in countries like Japan, where it’s so much more likely for kids to never read a book due to the all the technology and gadgets lying around.

Lung Cancer for the Fashion Conscious

Check out these ads aimed at making fashion conscious females more aware of lung cancer and the consequences. I think this is a really awesome ad and awareness campaign since a lot of females in their twenties chain smoke. This ad campaign is also evidence of the trend, especially among female models, to do hard “recreational” drugs ie. Kate Moss…

Google’s doing everything possible about Click Fraud

Google has been receiving a lot of publicity the last month or so about Click Fraud and the implications of it on their multi-billion dollar AdSense program. They are currently involved in a court case, Lane’s Gifts vs Google, and just had an expert professor evaluate their counter-measures for the supposed Click Fraud.

According the the expert opinion, Google’s staff is well equipped the handle the problem and are also doing everything within their reasonable power to stop click fraud.

This however is still a very delicate matter and one expert’s findings does not mean that Click Fraud is not alive and happening…[here's the full story of Google's blog]

Hail the Cab

Death Cab for CutieDeath Cab for Cutie have been together for a while, having recorded their first album in 1997 and having since produced another six full-lengths and four EP’s. Their big break probably came after their appearance on The O.C. and the success of their previous album, Transatlanticism. They recently signed to Atlantic Records and released their debut album on this label entiled “Plans”.

DCFC plays a very laid-back brand of indie pop rock. Using some creative song composing and out-of-the-box thinking, they produce a very unique sound.

Although their latest album, Plans, will probably be hailed as their best record to date, it’s probably only due to the fact that it received more publicity. Overall Transatlanticism is a better record and has a more more indie & edgy sound to it. In fact, every single song on Transatlanticism is great and you can absolutely lose yourself when listening to the beautiful sounds created by the foursome called DCFC.

Some interesting facts to note are that DCFC also hail from Seattle, the city that is also famous for spawning Kurt Cobain & Nirvana. DCFC started out on the ever-rampant indie label, Barsuk Records, and had a lot of underground success back in the day. The band also take a break just before recording Transatlanticism in 2004 and band member, Ben Gibbard, spent the time apart on his very well-known side-project The Postal Service.

Hail the Cab - you won’t be dissapointed!
