The DOGLamp

The Dog Lamp

Check out this cute DOGLamp by Back4. The design is good and this item should be quite a hit (at about $60) with the kids. It would’ve been funnier of the power cord went into the back however…

Strange Cheddar Advertising

We found these ads over at AdArena and they just seem a little strange…Those little mice / mini-lion creatures freak us out a little. Don’t know what to make of this – probably not the best print ad we’ll see this year…

The Firefox Crop

Firefox Crop Circle

Being loyal Firefox users ourselves, we really like what these 12 enthusiasts did. Getting some inspiration from M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs, the team constructed this Firefox crop circle – with a final diameter of 220 feet – in only 24 hours.

We love the thinking-outside-the-box viral marketing. Viral marketing is being used by more and more brands these days in a trend that seems unstoppable.

Long live the Fox!

YouTube does Paris

YouTubeIn some interesting news this week, YouTube has cast their financial problems into Paris Hilton’s lap…It’s been known for a while now, that YouTube aren’t making enough (or any?) money from the site and with their ever-increasing bandwidth bill (currently about $1m each month), experts fear that they won’t stay too long.

But YouTube being YouTube and one of the most popular and most visited websites at the moment, have a few ideas up there sleeve. Their current attempt at monetizing the site is a massive Paris Hilton channel to coincide with her album launch next Tuesday (and probably also her no-sex-for-a-year rants the past few weeks). Apparently Warner Bros is already first in line to advertise the upcoming series of hit TV show, Prison Break, on the Paris channel.

The channel contains a few music videos of Paris, some promo videos, ringtones etc. The branding and layout on this page is also much more sleek than the rest of the YouTube pages. The channel also seems to be doing quite well, being the third most subscribed channel on YT this week.

Apparently YT are planning on more branded channels and this could be the way to forward and the path to that cash cow. They are serving a 100 million videos every day, and they should be able to make money of it.

Minor Changes

Apologies for not posting as regulary during the last week, but we’ve had a lot of computer problems.

You will notice that there are also a few minor layout changes on the website:

1) We added a blogroll to give recognition to blogs that inspire our own postings.
2) The RSS button is smaller (more stylish…) and is now placed top right-hand side of the text area.

Hope the new changes go down well and hope that we can produce some regular content over the next few days.

The One AM Radio

The One AM RadioThe One AM Radio is the sensibly-chosen stagename of singer-songwriter, Hrishnikesh Hirway. Having been around since 1999, HH has released 2 full-length, 3 EP’s and 4 split albums in a very diverse discography.

It’s difficult to define the sound of this guy, but the combination of edgy electronic beats, acoustic guitar, piano and the most haunting & mysterious voice you will hear, makes for a very unique end product. The One AM Radio takes you on a mystic journey through every song – where you never know what is behind the next corner. The music is so descriptive and arty, that a whole fantasy landscape is created in your mind – automatically. The sounds dares and invites you to just go with the flow.

What makes this guy even more amazing, is his viral marketing ideas. He released a four track EP, An Assembly, which is downloadable online (here’s the link), complete with all the album artwork. This is a really great idea and an awesome edition to your music collection. Check this guy out.

Even the animals are doing it…

This is an ad campaign designed for Vida Silvestre, a foundation in Argentina that are protecting animals and raising awareness about the possible extinction of many species.

It may be a little on the crude side, but it’s still very funny and very effective in hitting the mark. (Note the the reader: They ad agency could also have used Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, as it would’ve had the same effect!)

My favourite things and a spoonful of sugar

FavoriteThingz
FavoriteThingz is a new Web 2.0 project that have been getting themselves a bit of publicity (hence the reference to sugar in our post title) lately.

The concept is to great a kind of Flash slideshow by selecting your various favourite movies, bands & brands and then FavoriteThingz generates a nice little Flash applet for you to use on your own site. The design is very, very slick and it looks really impressive. A possible added bonus is the fact that the slideshow also acts as a CPA advertisement for the differents “slides” and you can earn commission from sales that’s generated from clicks on your site. Sneaky. But marketing-wise it’s brilliant from the FT guys.

Only downside at this stage is the fact that the database of possible favourite things are a little small at the moment. If they pick that up, you might see this popping up all over the net. Another suggestion – and the reason why we don’t their system is cool enough to implement here yet – is to give the user some size customization for the slideshows, since their standard issue at the moment might be a bit bulky for most sites to implement in their designs.

Check them out though – things can only get better!

Musings & Revelations

MuseMuse might not be the newest band around, but after a little studio break, this progressive rock outfit has come back to produce one of their best albums to date, Black Holes & Revelations.

The band consists of Matthew Bellamy (vocals & guitar), Dominic Howard (drums) & Chris Wolstenholme (bass & vocals). The band has been together for about 12 years now and have released four studio and one live album to date. Combining Bellamy’s awesome vocal range, with the band’s progressive ideas and musical experimentation, Muse has established themselves with a very unique sound. Their music probably has no borders and therefor no definition would suffice…

With Black Holes & Revelations, Muse have gone with a slightly less dark sound, which they absolutely perfected with some great studio mixing. The album has already spawned three singles and there could be one or two more. The best thing about BH&R is probably the new direction, but old formula, that Muse used and Bellamy’s vocals sound better than ever.

This is a band that grows on you, but not after the first lesson. They are different. Deal with it.

Footballing Honeys Part 1

Ilary BlasiIn keeping with our rich sporting girls tradition, we’ll be dedicating a few posts to thge girlfriends and wives of the world’s richest and best footballing stars (that’s soccer players to all you Americans).

First up we have Ilary Blasi, the wife (since 2005) of the World Cup-winning Italian attacker Francesco Totti.

We don’t know much about this 25 year old vixen, except that there’s quite a bit of nude pics of her available online. Plying her trade as a model these days, she started out as an actress and presenter in various smalltime Italian productions. In the end, we don’t really care what she’s doing as long as she keeps that amazing body in shape.

Have a look for yourself:
