If you want to take up fine woodworking as a hobby but don’t have much space, you may want to think about buying a good quality lathe. A lathe can fit in a corner, but allows you almost unlimited design possibilities.
Wood bar stools are a perfect starter project. You can start by turning simple tapered legs and stretchers and gradually work your way up to more complicated turnings. You can even turn the bar stool seat on your lathe.
To make tapered legs, all you have to do is offset the bottom of the leg. Because it is not centered on the pin, it will wobble, so you need to take care when you start rough gouging. Nip away at the wood slowly rather than trying to take it off in big chunks. Also, you will have to set your chisel rest a little further away from the material than is normally safe, so take extra precautions as you work.
By the time you have completed four sets of legs for your wooden bar stools, you will be a virtual expert at turning tapered legs. If you like, you can put the legs back on the lathe and add some decorative detailing. Instead of making a dead straight taper, try adding a gentle bulge to give it a less rigid look.
Before you take your legs off the lathe, you will need to turn the top of the legs to an exact diameter for installing into the seat. You will need to set your calipers to the diameter you want and check regularly as you turn. As soon as the calipers can slip over the wood, stop turning. If you need to trim a little off later, after you have bored the holes in the seat, you can easily do so. It’s not so easy, however, to add wood to your turning!
You will then need to turn your stretchers. These can be straight or you can taper them at both ends. If you taper them, your calipers will come in handy to ensure that they are of equal diameter at the ends.
The hardest part of making these bar stools is putting them together. The legs are not going to be straight, so you will have to drill the holes for the legs and the stretchers at an angle. You can determine the angle best if you make a drawing first. Then, make a jig for your drill press. Make a few practice holes first, so you don’t ruin your stool seats.
As with anything, the secret to woodworking is practice. Set yourself modest goals at first and then tackle the more advanced projects. Before you know it, you will be making modern bar stools to rival the best!

It is often a hobbyist’s dream to be able to make a living doing what they love for a living. The realities of a marketplace that includes imported handicrafts at cheap prices keeps many hobbyists from realizing their dreams, though. If a craftsman wants to turn his dream into a business, he has to find a niche for himself.
Woodworking is a very popular hobby. There are some great woodworking machines on the market today that allow even hobbyists with limited space to get professional quality results relatively quickly. These include combination machines, drop saws, routers and lathes that make it easy to make items like wooden bar stools with beautifully turned legs.
These machines speed up the process of making furniture such as chairs and tables, but they still can’t compete with the automated machines that are used in the large furniture factories. You can’t expect to compete against a machine that can make 100 wood bar stools for every 5 you can produce in the same amount of time.
If your goal is to make woodworking your business, you will have to stretch your imagination and make a niche in the market. You will only be able to successfully do this if you perfect your skills in every department, practical and creative. Interior designers, arts and crafts galleries and architects are only looking for the best and you will need to be able to give it to them.
Because even modern bar stools, for instance, are mass produced, designers who want to make a name for themselves will be looking for items that have never been seen before. Because they have a demanding clientele, they will be looking for the best examples of contemporary wooden furniture they can find.
As a hobbyist turning professional, your job will be to excel at what you do. Focus first one perfecting your craft and secondly on honing your creative skills. As a craftsman, these things will come naturally, but as a businessman, you are going to have to push your limits even further if you want to succeed.
Once you have a portfolio, your next challenge will be to get the word out. This is best done by knocking on doors and presenting your work to potential clients. Another way to help promote your business is to make a website and promote that in every way you can.
It won’t be easy, but entrepreneurship never is. If you work hard and don’t let setbacks get you down, you can eventually succeed. You may not be able to give up your day job for awhile, but if you keep at it, you may eventually find that you have to quit your job just to keep up with your demand!

You might be among the many that are struggling to decide on something to get for the tricky person on their Christmas list this year. This article is meant to be used as an inspiration for those having these problems. You will find some hot gift ideas contained here, and at the very least, it should get you started towards the perfect gift.
If you have someone in your family that has taken a very big stance to get in better shape, one way that you can help them in their quest is by purchasing a few months of a gym membership for them. Likely they fare better in their efforts by working along side others and being part of a group. This might be what it takes for them to lose the weight, and people there can show them how to get big ripped muscles too.
For the movie buff, there are some great titles that have just been released in time for you to pick them up for Christmas. One such flick is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen which displays the relentless pursuit that the Transformers Megatron orchestrates to obtain information contained within the mind of the hero, Sam Witwickey. Other awesome movies you can pick up include Star Trek, Four Christmases and Funny People.
Money is a common gift, but an insensitive one. All this says is: ‘I have no idea what you like, and I don’t have the time to research it.’ The best thing in this situation for a tricky person on your list is a gift card to a specialty store catering to a general hobby or interest of theirs. Throwing money at the situation is just saying that you don’t care to take an interest in what they care about.
You might find someone in your family or on your gift-giving list that is suffering from a job loss or being laid off. This is a common problem these days. One unique gift for the open minded recipient on your list is a paid membership to a job leads site. These can provide a great deal of credible leads for employment, leads such as stay at home jobs providing some real Internet business income.
Saving money is the main theme of many lives these days. You have to keep one rule in mind when you are trying to spread your money across the whole list. This rule is: you can save some money if you buy a series of funny gifts. This means, make it a theme for your gift giving this year to give hilarious novelty gifts to the extended members of your family. Everyone will be laughing so hard they won’t have a chance to ask you how much you spent.
Hopefully this was inspirational enough to get you started on gift giving this year. Some folks on your list might be tricky, but you might be able to knock out some of the names with the ideas contained here.

The simple acts of drawing and coloring are literally childs’ play, however, both of these past-times play an important role in your child’s physical, emotional and cognitive development. Like no other activity, the hobby of drawing and coloring allows young children to express themselves and their emotions, experience autonomy and build their confidence.
Parents and caregivers such as teachers and grandparents can promote the hobby of drawing and coloring as a way to improve physical, social, emotional and cognitive development-and to have a lot of fun along the way too. Here are some suggestions:
1. Provide your grankids with nontoxic materials, blank sheets of white paper and coloring pages.
2. Model drawing. Show children that you like to draw and color too – make designs but do not show your children what they should draw.
3.Encourage all drawing and coloring activity and efforts by talking about the beautiful colors, the lines and shapes the child has made.
4. Rather than ask, “What have you drawn?,” say “Tell me about your drawing”.Asking “What is that?” suggests to the child that s/he has failed to depict what they intended.
5. Talk about concepts like thin, thick, wide, narrow, dark, light, edge, shape, contour, etc.
6.Display their art in a prominent place – such as the kitchen fridge, and in places where visitors to your home will see them. Point them out to visitors – the praise for the work will boost a child’s self esteeem and confidence.
7. Give children the freedom to choose the subjects of their drawings and of their coloring sheets. Some argue that coloring sheets do very little to foster children’s creativity – however they do play a vital role in developing a child’s fine motor skills – a pre-cursor to writing – and often encourage children who wouldn’t otherwise draw and color to pick up a crayon to color in their favourite character. For example little girls may enjoy coloring images of fairytale princesses while boys enjoy coloring images of favourite characters such as Pokemon or Spongebob Squarepants and at sites like Spongebob Coloring Pages you’ll find many Spongebob coloring Always supervise younger children while they draw and color – crayons pose a choking risk.

In the wide world of candles, these are the top of the notch. There are good reasons why these candles are so pricey. And it is great to know that you will hardly find a candle that is as clean as beeswax candle.
Beeswax candles compete in the market against three different competitors, namely, soy wax candles, gel candles, and paraffin candles. The competitors are generally less expensive and also of lower quality.
We are making beeswax candles from the wax commercial bee farmers are gathering from their bee hives. Then the beeswax is purified and prepared specially for the process of candles making. Heating the wax in a hot water is what a purification process is all about.
There are scented and unscented varieties, besides the difference beeswax candles have in their form and shape. One of the reasons why beeswax candles are considered top-of-the-line is their burning characteristics. The difference is that some other candles do not emit such a powerful yellow color and burn with such warm flames.
With beeswax candles there is very little wax dripping.
This characteristic makes these candles very desirable for use in religious services. You know that many religious institutions use candles on a regular basis, during the services they have daily. Those candles would be a big problem if they were dripping their wax everywhere.
They are using beeswax candles because they do not drip wax, and this is how the problem is solved. Another advantage of beeswax candles is that they produce very little smoke. In other words, they are very clean burning candles. This characteristic makes them desirable candles to burn with children in the home and also generally to protect your family’s respiratory systems.
These candles do not produce the petroleum smell and that you often get with paraffin candles and they do not produce the soot that can leave dark spots against your walls or on your ceiling.
These candles have a lot of benefits and this makes them a good buy, even if they are expensive due to a lot more labor involved in their farming process.
