How these workouts burn fat

Your body is designed to store fat. To your body fat is money in the bank. It does not want to let go of it very easily. Your goal with these workouts is to overcome your body’s lipolytic sensitivity (in layman’s terms, fat storage mode). It has been proven that the higher the workout intensity the more likely the body’s physiological response to overcome lipolytic sensitivity and let go of the fat.

Fat hormones bind to either alpha or beta receptors. Which one depends on your body’s lipolytic sensitivity. While the details are beyond the scope of this article, alpha-receptor dominance results in fat hormones stubbornly refusing to budge. High intensity exercise overcomes this problem. That is, these routines convince your body to “un-bind” that fat.

Forget all that hogwash you have heard about “fat burning zones”. To burn fat you need to up the ante. (Well, forget their hogwash, not mine. I am talking about those charts you probably saw in your gym admonishing you for getting your heart rate too high. If you want to know more, leave a question in the comments section.)

So if high intensity exercise is the answer, why not go all out all the time?

There are two reasons for this:

  1. While high intensity exercise breaks down fatty acids in your cells, high intensity exercise does not burn fatty acids as a fuel. (That is the basis of the “fat burning zone” myth.) To overcome this, all of these workouts are designed as “intervals”. All this means is that you switch between high intensity and lower intensity exercise DURING each workout. Switching between high and low intensity creates that magic bullet.
  2. You can’t go all out for a long enough period of time to burn significant calories. Research shows that working at a high intensity level consistently without some form of “rest interval” will result in burn out. The conclusion is that it’s better to incorporate “rest intervals”, which results in more time spent exercising, than an all out high intensity routine that would likely be short-lived. You know this empirically – can you sprint as long as you can jog?

For optimal fat burning, do these workouts 2-3 times a week

The first exercise is for beginners. If you are just learning about interval training, start with the basic concept and then build in some of the other routines as you progress.

Workouts 2 – 11 are designed not only as excellent interval sets with varying times built in for your convenience (so some are shorter, some are longer) but also with variety to create a consistent level of interest. Some of these workouts are pretty difficult, so listen to your body. There is nothing wrong with progression… taking it down a notch until you are ready to kick your own butt is equally as admirable, just because you are doing it!! You will get better results from hitting the high intensity as hard as you can, so choose a workout that allows you to exercise at maximum effort during the high intensity sections. You need to be able to both finish the workout AND be tired at the end of it. Not too easy, not too hard. This is not one of those workouts where you can read a magazine or talk to your neighbor. These workouts should feel hard.

The other night I was watching Opera with my wife and doctor Oz was on and I found some amazing new tips to lose weight.  The first tip was on fiber he said that a healthy fiber diet should include 35 milligrams of fiber for men and 25 milligrams of fiber for women.

So by eating more fiber not only will it help you lose weight but it will keep your cholesterol down too!  That is why your doctor always says the older you get the more fiber you need to eat!  Before you try this one there is one tip that you might need to know don’t suddenly increase your fiber that fast especially if you do not normally take fiber. It will leave you bloated and really gassy so start slow and steadily increase your fiber to the daily recommended amount. Over the next two weeks I am going to put this diet to the test. Ok, so far it has been two weeks since I started the fiber diet.  I only had one bad day that I kinda cheated but I lost 5 pounds in two week.  It is not exactly a rapid weight loss solution but I am going to for sure include it in my regular diet I am sure it will help with my weight loss diet.

The next tip that he suggested was to increase our calcium intake.  He said that the normal daily recommended amount is 1200 milligrams.  He said that the calcium bonds with the fats in your body and will help remove them.  After a couple days you will notice that your poop will begin to float that’s the fat your body is getting rid of because oily fat floats in water!  I have already done this one and it is true every word of it.  It will remove over 6 pounds of fat in your body a year it does not sound like much but I do not know about you but I don not want to gain even 1 more pound today.  This is not really a way to lose weight fats but it will keep your body clean and keep you from gaining more unwanted weight.  Now much like the fiber diet there is something you need to know first.  As you intake 1200 milligrams of calcium it will start to constipate you so will that 1200 milligrams of calcium take 800 milligrams of magnesium this will keep you regular.
